A Bright and Cheerful Nook

by Courtney

Can it please stop raining…omg, this is getting insane. On this rainy March Sunday, a little BRIGHT, sunshine-feeling décor is in order. It’s the perfect time to show you a new area I made in my home. I went shopping around my house and found décor to create a little “stationary nook” (I think I made this term up in my head) between my living room and kitchen. It’s amazing how something old feels brand new once you have styled it differently.

I have a table that I found at ReStore and painted Tiffany blue. It first served as a bright spot in my entryway and later became a buffet table in my kitchen. Third time’s a charm! It has been given a new life yet again.

I paired it with an upholstered chair I also rehabbed from Restore and a Lilly Pulitzer carpet I originally had in Georgia’s room. (Once she got her Barbie Dream House, there was no more room for the Lilly rug.)

I added a white coral lamp to tie the look together.

I wanted to add some books that were in line with the color scheme. I decided to use shells we collected on a vacation as a vase filler. They became my “bookends.” I love that the shell collections are just slightly mismatched and imperfect. That’s part of the charm of something authentically “found.” Keeping consistent color among the shells and using identical vases brings balance to the whole visual. I also chose only three books, because odd numbers are always more pleasing to the eye.

I want so badly to add this new monogrammed stationary to the desk…but I know what would happen. I would walk downstairs one day to find marker scribbles or a backwards “G” and Georgia spelled out onto the crisp set. On that note, this is how Georgia dresses on a boring ol’ rainy Sunday.

Shep saw Georgia getting her photos, so he asked to have his taken. I was thrilled…usually it takes bribing.

And of course, my sweet boy that sat beside me the whole time I wrote this post, obligingly allowed me to snap a picture. The older they get, the less they seem to want photos.

Happy Sunday!
