A Headboard Made of Doors

by Courtney

A long time ago, I posted about my headboard made of doors.  Back then, they were a dark blue-gray color. Eventually, I tired of the shade and was ready to brighten them up.  (These doors are just three doors we bought at Lowes and leaned against the wall.)  I used white paint (this is my favorite kind) mixed it with a little water.  I used a stiff paintbrush (this is the one I use for painting furniture the most) and slowly applied the white paint directly over the gray paint I had previously applied.

I was careful to make sure I let some of the gray show through.  Using rough strokes while applying the paint gave it a more casual look and feel.  I applied several thin coats until I achieved the white-washed look I desired.

These picture frames on the doors are one of my favorite parts of the headboard.  If you want to recreate this look, you can simply get wreath hangers like this and frames like these. Do a google search for royalty free photos or even look on Etsy to find black and white photos you love.  Once you frame your photos, simply take white ribbon and using a staple gun, staple the ribbon to the top of each frame.  Slip it on to the wreath hanger and voila!

In the summer, I try to always bring fresh flowers in the house.  It is such a nice touch.  I used these mint julep cups (I am obsessed with these cups) and a single hydrangea I clipped from my yard.  It’s crazy how something so small can add such ambiance.

I found these Cynthia Rowley throw pillows at Home Goods.  The second I saw them, I knew they had to be mine.  They are a little wacky, but I love them.

I’ve got some lovely lemon wreaths to put the finishing touches on for some customers today and a pool date with my kids.  I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!
