There is nothing more precious than the bed of our babies. A crib is often the first place we put our children; a solid vessel of trust that comforts a new parent. It’s often victim to chips from a toy or from little bites (I jokingly called B and Shep my little termites…they managed to rip chunks out of the wooden rail the second they got teeth.)
There comes a time that we know we have had our last baby and inevitably…we need to pack the crib away. Then comes the challenge: do we save it as an heirloom? Do we get rid of it?
When it was my turn to do this, I tearfully watched David take the crib apart, remembering each tender moment of all three of my babies. They all slept in that crib. I couldn’t just be done with it…afterall, we had been through a lot together, that ‘ol crib and I.
I once saw a porch swing on Pinterest that made my heart skip. It was large enough for an adult to comfortably lay down, but most importantly, it would fit all three of my children. We often spend time as a family on our front porch and once Shep came along…we ran out of seating.
The manufacturer of the swing advertised that they were made to fit a crib mattress. I realized that the swing was built using the same basic structure of a crib. I was SOLD and knew that a good DIY project was the destiny for the Ronay crib. But let’s be real…I knew I needed this thing to be sturdy and done RIGHT. I tend to be a little impatient and despise tedious measuring. (I’m the girl that eyeballs the placement of a picture frame. And then I just kind of keep making holes in the wall till the pictures are even.)
So of course, I consulted my ever trusty father-in-law. Y’all…that man is amazing. I showed him what I wanted to accomplish and he did a ton of research. We put our heads together and we turned this:
DIY Porch Swing from a Crib
Into this:
Y’all…we love it. It’s genuinely comfortable and pretty at the same time.
Tomorrow, I will show y’all how we did it.
