Valentine’s Day has never been a big deal to me. But this year, Georgia changed all of that. She began asking about it constantly once February came. I would hear her in the living room, “Alexa, how many days until Valentine’s Day?” She’d walk around and tell each family member several times that day “it’s only x amount of days till Valentine’s Day!”
Well, the poor girl got sick. She came down with a fever last Saturday and it persisted through yesterday. The doctor said it was simply a virus, but that meant she could not go to school for her Valentine’s Day party. She was devastated. In effort to save the day, I told her that we would make it extra special at home. I decided that her and I would cook for the boys together. That is a huge deal for her and she is so excited. I wanted to do something special since she built this day up to herself so much, so last night I pulled together whatever pink and red items I could muster and made our dining area festive.
Fortunately, she is feeling better (meanwhile, I have the bug now. Of course…moms always get it.) But it was adorable to hear them run down stairs this morning yelling “it’s Valentine’s Day!” and then gasping when they saw the table. Now I just have to muster the energy to pull off the dinner-we’ll be making red fettuccini noodles. When I told her that (and only she could know…it’s our surprise to the boys) she couldn’t wait. My heart is bursting with love today.
