Do you have any idea how exciting it was for me to decorate for fall this year? I generally gravitate toward light, airy colors and coastal vibes as it is. This year, I pulled out the storage boxes of fall decor and cringed.
All the orange pumpkins.
I knew it wasn’t going to work. I broke out paint and got busy. (Read on for the step by step below.) We have been searching for seaglass frequently and I was so inspired by the warm texture of the glass. I chose matte paints and soft, muted tones of pink, white, and blue for the pumpkins. A few hours later, my pumpkins were exactly what I wanted. (Bonus points if you have a construction zone in the background and if your fern looks thirsty. That giant purple sprinkler is clearly doing its work.)
Among the craft pumpkins, I added one fresh ivory pumpkin. I find that mixing real pumpkins with faux ones works best. If you have just a ton of craft pumpkins grouped together, they lack that organic, earthy feeling of a real pumpkin. Adding one or two real ones into a grouping of craft pumpkins works wonders.
*My “real” camera isn’t working. Bear with me on the iPhone photos.*
I simply painted directly onto the craft pumpkins using matte acrylic paint (see below.) Once the pumpkins are dry, use a matte sealer to protect your work.

My pumpkins finally have the appropriate beach vibe. Now I will just wait as we add the hideous “scary” Halloween decorations to my pretty little display. The kids wouldn’t want it any other way.
